Ingredients

For the cake:
75 g (3 oz) dark chocolate, broken into small pieces
2 teaspoons instant coffee
1 ½ cups hot water
3 cups caster sugar
2 ½ cups plain flour
1 ½ cups unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tablespoons golden syrup or light corn syrup

170 g (6 oz) unsalted butter,
